Report from Government and other sources reveal that there are approximately 8 million SMEs in Bangladesh. Of them, 72.6 percent are micro, 20 percent are small and 6.4 percent are medium that constitute 99%, which is much higher than global scenario.
SMEs (which includes small, micro and cottage enterprises) contribution to GDP is around 25 percent, generate more than 75 percent of household income, 89 percent Industrial job and employ around 25 percent of the total labour force.
The export earnings from this sector is around 89 percent.
